Aha.. I had WAY too much fun with this one.
Usually, I don't go for situations where two characters from a known author are in a completely different setting and circumstance (not my style, heh..I find it sorta weird, honestly. ) But this one was just so interesting, I couldn't resist! I'm fascinated by Ancient cultures, so naturally, I went nuts (in a good way) looking for references, taking out books from the library and checking out Ancient Egyptian artifacts and jewelry so as to properly adorn these two. I do believe she asked me for more modest outfits for these two, but I really got into it, and got completely carried away. I don't remember ever having so much fun on a piece, honestly, lol. Though my apologies all the same, ~Urd-chan, for not totally having respected the boundaries of your request, heh... Other details: Against my better judgement, I let Kagome's hair show, even though what research I did of Ancient Egyptian hairstyles featured nothing but exquisite headgear and wigs... but she was unrecognizable enough already without her tell-tale bangs, so I decided I needed to keep her hair out, instead of tucked underneath. Just so y'all would recognize her. (I find that her hat has a very "Nefertiti" look to it, hehe... I enjoyed that so much! As for Inu, I don't know how he can deal with the heat, with that mane, but oh well. He looks pretty Pharaoh-ish, if I do say so myself, and I'd even venture to say he'd make a fine Anubis, mwahaha... (dog-headed Egyptian god, if I'm not mistaken.) That symbol tattooed on his shoulder is a symbol of eternal life, which I thought fitting for a demon, in an Egyptian context. He's looking quite stern here, but I was actually going for the "noble emperor watching proudly over his land, and his concubines" look mwahahahe.... Worked... So... Goddamned... Hard... on... the.. POSES!!! ARGH! The piece is done in watercolors entirely, either by tube of paint, or watercolor pencils, on Bristol board. So.. had enough of my babbling yet? I could go on forever. I really had a AMAZINGLY FUN time painting this, seriously... you can always tell when I can never say enough about something lol. There are tons of mistakes, I see em already... (hand, composition, crappy background..... etc..) But I mean... I'm very happy with this. Thanks Urd-chan for the great and original request, it really was inspirational and uber fun! I hope it's to your liking! Comments |
