I've figured that there's no better tool than a reference, so what I did yesterday is print out a bunch of pics I have of my friends, and I'm planning on using them as reference to make a series of random portraits... I originally was using reference shots to practice folds, but I've found that the overall result from using a personal reference shot is just great, and plus, I learn a lot more from the experience, and can hone my perspective and posture skills. (And lighting too!) The best reference is real life, I'd guess. Anyway, like I said, the reference shots are of my friends, from pictures I've taken myself or been given by them. However, this doesn't mean that the person itself necessarily looks like any friend of mine. Just inspired by, sorta thing. Anyway, the first is this one, some of you might remember that I posted the photo version in here a while ago, and I just really liked the folds, the lighting and the pose, so there you go. This was done exclusively in markers and colored pencils, save for a border, and some minute lighting in photoshop. (Heh.. I'm also trying to get re-acquainted with traditional media, and trying to take more risks, technique wise.)
Anyway, I have to admit that I really like this one a lot... not only from a technical standpoint, but just from a visual aesthetic way. I think this pic says a lot about the person it's inspired by. Strong and feminine, yet muted and playful.... A guy's on my list next, so we'll see how that turns out!!
Wow.... oh, I love roses... Thus, I love this. ^^ Beautiful soft colors. The white outline around the character, petals, and especially the swirly hair is very effective.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
