Artist's Comments

Aha... well this is .. something pretty different lol. It all started when I was inspired, by my Eastern Religion and the Arts class, to draw up some Hindu deities, because I liked the stories and vivid imagery associated with them. ( And by doing so, I hope I'm not breaking somekind of sacred law here... ^^;) And had mentionned that, for our potential art trade, she would have liked to see some lol. So.. I'm not sure if this is what she had in mind, but like, she gave me that extra kick in the butt I needed to get it done. (I really hope you like it, chica..)

There's a lot to explain here.. so I guess I'll start with who these two are, and if I make any mistakes, please don't throw rocks at me, I'm not Hindu and I'm still learning. But basically, on the left we have Rama, and to his right, his companion Sita. These two are incarnations of Vishnu and Lakshmi respectively, each powerful deities and a timeless couple, basically, whom are always incarnated to be with each other somehow. (which I like very much.) Though Lakshmi, when paired with Vishnu, occupies a lesser, more devotional position in the relationship, she's a godess of wealth and good fortune and such, and is often represented by lotus blossoms, which is why I included some near her avatar, Sita. Vishnu himself is said to have created the Earth with the help of... Brahma I think it was, (which he created himself, actually..) and has like, tons of incarnations. (I'm not sure what number, but something like 10 or 12..) and in each case, they serve to descend upon the planet and deliver it from Ashuras, or evil spirits, which always seem to take over.

These particular incarnations, Rama and Sita, are part of an ancient legend, called the Ramayana(s?)... and it's too long of a story to explain right here, so go look it up lol. Anyway, these two are described as being the utmost representation of loyalty and married bliss and whatnot, JUST IN TIME FOR VALENTINE'S DAY!!! yay! *not*

The color scheme, as you've probably noticed.. HURTS!!!! lol.. But I liked how colorful the traditional art was, and kept to the style as best I could, in that sense. The wardrobe is traditional as well... I just hope I didn't screw up some symbolism with the colors I chose. Anyway...

That's about it... and I hope you guys like it! This thing took me an indescribable amount of time to do lol... in markers, all, with a cheezy background in photoshop for your viewing pleasure. Anyway, enjoy, and sorry for the uber long description.

**I get ten points for the lamer title!!! :w00t:
***I know they're both a tensy bit skinny, much more so in fact, that the traditional art allows for... but seeing as I was trying them in anime style, well.. this is how it turned out, lol. I actually like the more fleshy versions in the traditional images though...

You're planning my demise aren't you?
:iconchibi-cheeks:
Well this certainly is different subject matter for you as well as these bold colors. But like everything else you do this is simply gorgeous. The folds and wrinkles in the fabric are amazing too. The way these two are posed really do make it look as though they symbolize marriage and loyalty. I don't know why you think your BGs are cheesy all the time. I think it's stunning.

Your ideas intrigue me and I'd like to subscribe to your news letter.

I like the lotus in the background.

From what little I've seen of Eastern Art, you've done a wonderful job of representing the traditional clothing and figures in your own modern style. And don't worry about the subject matter. Humans have been representing their deities in their own personal styles for centuries. If you're influenced by new-to-you ideas from another culture, then it's good to explore them just as you've done here. :)

Hey, Mr. Warhol, when do I get my 15 minutes?

You did a wonderful job! I'm actually a culture nut, and the story of Rama and Sita has always been one of my favorites. I doubt anyone would be offended by this piece. Lovely!!
